What is Death Cafe?
What is Death Cafe?
(This information is from the official Death Cafe website: http://www.DeathCafe.com. Visit their site to learn more about Death Cafe and find one located in your area):
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.
Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.
A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.
Our Death Cafes are always offered:
- On a not for profit basis
- In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
- With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
- Alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and cake**!
**Sorry, we can't provide tea and cake for our Virtual Death Cafe, but we encourage you to enjoy your own during the call!
In a Virtual Death Cafe we are following the same objectives, but meeting over the telephone rather than face-to-face.

Instructions for calling in:
Instructions for calling in:
1. Please call in promptly at the start time for the Death Cafe (or call a few minutes early). This will help us run the group on time and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to share. Our group size will be limited to approximately 10 participants on a first-come basis, so calling in early will allow you to secure a spot in the group.
2. Dial in with your telephone using the numbers listed above.
3. You will be placed on hold until the event begins and then you will hear the host(s) join the line.
4. All callers will be unmuted during the event so that you can spontaneously join in the conversation. If there is a lot of background noise at your location, please mute your own line.
5. Please be respectful of the other members of the group by listening carefully, commenting when appropriate and maintaining an atmosphere of safety and confidentiality for all.
