My guest Denys Cope, RN, BSN, MSS has been an RN for over 50 years and a hospice nurse for over 30 years. She has a private practice as a Healthcare Coach, Patient Advocate, and professional speaker specializing in the dying process, senior care, and end-of-life care. Denys serves as a resource, an advocate, case manager and/or a support for persons faced with navigating the Healthcare system, especially related to end-of-life care.
Denys is the author of the award-winning book, Dying A Natural Passage. She believes that dying is a natural event, and one of the most important, as well as profound experiences in our life. She offers lectures and workshops throughout the United States to raise awareness of this extraordinary process, as well as other related topics.
As a hospice nurse Denys Cope has always been committed to teaching patients and their families about the natural process of dying to ease their fears and prepare them for the future. She wrote Dying a Natural Passage after recording a radio interview and found it was a helpful guidebook for hospice families. Eventually she was able to get it published and available for sale in the US and multiple other countries.
Highlights of this interview include:
The serendipitous story of how this book came to be written
The normal stages of dying and how they resemble the stages of pregnancy
Why dying patients stop eating
The nature of pain during the dying process
What caregivers need to know about the work of caregiving
How to purchase the book
Denys provides end-of-life coaching sessions and is available as a speaker or workshop leader.
